Cameroon’s participation in the 6th International Conference of Learning Cities
The 6th conference on learning cities for climate was held from December 3 to 5, 2024, in the industrial city of Jubail in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
This conference was organized by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) in collaboration with the industrial city of Jubail, under the theme: “Learning cities at the forefront of “climate action” and the main objective of raising awareness of the potential of learning cities to be at the forefront of climate action”.
On this occasion an important Cameroonian’s delegation of mayors, leading UNESCO learning cities, were invited at the Conference.

- Mrs. OTTOU Crescence Odette, the Mayor of Bikok presented the experience of the city of Bikok on the theme: “Building the foundations: early childhood education and protection as a catalyst for inclusive urban development”. This session explores approaches to promoting early childhood education and care (ECCE) in learning cities, highlighting its crucial role in promoting sustainable development and inclusive societies.
- Mr. HAMADJOULDE NDJIDDA, the Mayor of Mayo Baléo, in the session: “Their impact: women shape sustainable learning cities that are resilient to climate change”, highlighted the genius of the Mayo-Baleo ladies potters, the contribution of women to the sustainability and resilience of the city to climate change, their action as the main actors in saving the local textile industry and artisanal trades in general from dying.
- The said conference brought together representatives of various international organizations, UNESCO entities, international networks of concerned cities, national policy makers, experts in adult education and lifelong learning, representatives of private sector, non-governmental organizations, civil society groups, researchers, teachers and facilitators.
